"Gem of the Ocean" is the first of 10 chronological plays by the legendary Black American playwright, August Wilson, creator of the famed "Century Cycle" collection. The collection, also known as "The Pittsburgh Cycle," features decade-by-decade productions that depict the Black experience. betts discusses the unique collection and Wilson's ability to portray the intricacies of the human spirit, along with his role in bringing "Gem of the Ocean" to life.
