Jodie is also on Mount Sinai’s Institute for Health Equity Research Task Force, the Advisory Board of the Ackerman Institute’s Gender & Family Project, and Mount Sinai’s Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery Advisory Board. The United Nations has recognized her as a Champion of Change.
At the age of 3, Jodie Patterson's son announced, "Mama, I’m not a girl. I’m a boy." As a result, Jodie wrote the book, “The Bold World: A Memoir of Family and Transformation” which was published in 2019. Her new book is titled “Born Ready: The True Story Of A Boy Named Penelope."
In this conversation, Jodie discusses what life is like as the parent of a transgender child. She talks about how her family reacted and grew through this experience and gives advice to parents who might be navigating similar complicated waters.
