My guest today is dietitian Danielle Shine.
Danielle Shine is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian, nutritionist, and PhD student who is currently researching nutrition misinformation on social media. Prior to her nutrition career, Danielle worked for 14 years as a media and communication professional for organizations including The Walt Disney Company and the Australian Government Department of Human Services. Throughout her nutrition studies, Danielle developed a strong interest in social media, namely, its ability to infiltrate people’s lives and influence their dietary choices. She is also interested in social media’s inadvertent perpetuation of nutrition misinformation, which, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, is a serious threat to public health. Via her PhD, Danielle aims to produce work that supports inoculation of social media users against nutrition misinformation, which currently causes confusion and can contribute to dangerous diet cultures.
