The woman who wants to unseat him is Cassy Garcia, who was the state coordinator for Republican Senator Ted Cruz. Garcia is the wife of Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens. She says she understands firsthand the problems border patrol agents face in protecting the border. Garcia says it’s time for a change.
District 28 runs along the border. It includes the cities of Laredo, the southwest side of San Antonio, Mission and Rio Grande City in the Rio Grande Valley.
