Welcome to the first episode of Hampton High, a podcast hosted by me, Hampton McElvy, a junior at Rockville Prep (GO SKUNKS!). In this show you'll see Rockville Prep through my eyes. I'll be interviewing students, faculty, and more. It's like "WTF with Marc Maron," but for my school. My first guest (!) is a cool smart dude who flies under the radar. I'm so stoked to have him on the show, please welcome Eugene!
Mitra is a junior and a theater kid. I've known her since Freshman year (kind of). I was so stoked to talk with her about Rockville Prep musicals, but little did I know she also loves math and wants to be an accountant when she's older??? I think that's really cool. We also listen to the entire Rent soundtrack together. What did I think of it? I don't wanna give too much away, cause we talk a lot about it in the episode, but all I'm gonna say is...mind blown!
When I set out to do this pod, I wanted to have real conversations, like Marc Maron, Joe Rogan, and Terry Gross. Well, Skunks, the following is a real conversation. It doesn't really paint me in the best light, but that's okay. It's raw, unedited, and honest, just like WTF. I'm talking with senior and captain of the varsity volleyball team, Grace O'Mara.
Skunks! We got a very special ep for you today. It's Hampton High's first "adult" (or rather, "person of authority")
Welcome Miss Kavanagh! Miss Kavanagh is Rockville Prep's registrar, which means she knows everything about the students. And I mean EVERYTHING. I went into Terry Gross mode to try and get some secrets out of her, but let's just say...administrators can REALLY put you in your place. Get ready to get schooled, skunks!
The last few episodes have been...surprisingly intense. So this week, I invited a good friend of mine, Parker Krill "the Football Star", onto the pod to shoot the breeze, chill, and have a pleasant conversation. But instead, we get in a pretty intense argument about football and socialism and stuff. Obviously not expected. Also not expected: Parker is a hipster? BIG shout out to the freshman for making a DELICIOUS lunch for everybody during the ongoing Lunch People strike!
You know the woman who own the house next to the baseball field and won't give back the balls? I asked her to be on the pod because I needed answers. Why won't she give back the balls? She agreed to come on the show, so I went to her house to record our interview. But I didn't expect for things to get so...weird.
Art can be really powerful. Recently, I had the pleasure of looking at some art and was surprised that I was actually feeling a lot of different emotions. I knew I wanted to explore these feelings more on the pod. So I invited Charlie Redenbacher, a freshman artist, onto the show to talk about her mind blowing art and how she comes up with her crazy ideas. Her art is weird (in the best way), but also a little personal. Maybe too personal.
Prepare yourselves, Skunks. We're getting political. Class President Sam Rogan requested to come on the pod to talk about Spirit Week and the Class Cup. But I took this one-on-one time to confront him about something that's been on my mind: why was there no photo booth at this year's prom? His answer is shocking. And illegal. Shoutout to last year's senior who ACTUALLY partied!
Today, Rockville Prep's Drama teacher Mr. Lincoln joins me on the pod. He's our first teacher guest! We read some plays together, which is cool cause I've never done that before (I think he wants me to join Drama class) -- but I wasn't really comfortable reading from one of the plays he chose. I think I handled it well, but I'll let you decide for yourself.
