The Heart-Centered Rock Star

We are fangirling so hard for this one!! We are joined by singer, songwriter and actress Malina Moye and we cover everything. Malina takes us on her personal journey in the music industry from being homeless and living in her car to being on the cover of magazines. She also explains why she was prepared to walk away from being featured in publicity that did not gel with her values. Strong and Feminine

Tahverlee sits down with Janae who opens up about finding herself and her transgender journey. As a child she knew she just wanted what she felt inside to match her outside, but in a pre-internet world, information, empathy and access to a community, were hard to come by.
Janae competed as a body builder and professional powerlifter for many years and in 2009 set the world record in powerlifting in the men’s weight class with a 738 pound bench press, 810 pound deadlift and 1003 pound squat.
After being outed in 2015 via social media, Janae lost a lot of her sponsors and her job as a pharmacist, and her competitive path in strength sports took a back seat to focus on her life. But that’s not where she allowed her story to end. Janae is an author and speaker and is the subject of the award-winning documentary Transformer.
This story will make you ask yourself questions about our almost sub-conscious gender bias and the juxtaposition of strength of the feminine and of the masculine. As a trans/genderfluid/nonbinary human, Janae talks about the importance of being true to yourself. It’s also an education to hear how lack of knowledge is limiting transgender athletes to compete in sports, and lastly, it’s a story of triumph and love.

Crushing Limiting Mindsets

Connection seems to be a buzzword, but for Stephanie Browne, the M.C for this year’s Grrrl Live event, breaking down in front of a group of strangers started her on her path to recovery; and she learned to connect within herself.
We all have parts of ourselves we are to scared/ashamed to show people and Stephanie was just the same. After doing the work she shares her story of how she dealt with the abandonment and co-dependency.
In this episode we ask, do we need to expand the definition recovery to include emotional healing? We recognize that a lot of people base their opinion of themselves on what they believe others think of them. How this thought process can create an unhappy cycle. Stephanie shines a light into the dark corners of her recovery and talks about how she views herself now and the chain of events that led her to her to get in touch with her biological father. Grappling with Bullying

AJ Clingerman shares her story of bravery and perseverance.
A family tragedy in 2010 claimed her father and AJ found it hard to protect herself mentally, physically emotionally. When a former student started to bully her - the emotional toll was high.
Fighting back to equilibrium, AJ provides insight about:
*Being a female in a male-dominated environment
*What to do when someone tells you that you don’t belong
*Setting the bar, persevering and crushing that goal
*Not allowing anyone to push us out of where we belong
AJ is the co-owner of Fight Hub LLC, IBJJA, and Endurance Training center with her husband, James. She has trained in BJJ and Kickboxing and competed in many grappling tournaments and in 2015, AJ was the IBJJF’s #1 ranked Female Masters Blue Belt, in both Gi and No-Gi. In 2017, after receiving her purple belt, AJ proceeded on to win the world championship in No-Gi. AJ also runs a women’s only BJJ camp, Roll Model.

Finding Balance After an Eating Disorder

Shannon Callahan is a warrior. She has fought and is winning the battle against an eating disorder which went undiagnosed for so long, including during her years at law school.
Her relationships and upbringing led her to see her size as the determining factor to receiving love. At no point in her life did she receive guidance on a healthy relationship with food.
She is now on a path to remain healthy and since the recording of this show, Shannon has begun volunteering at her treatment center to help others understand her journey and develop healthy balances.
This is a story about moving forward from your upbringing, not allowing people to put their labels on you and seeking help even when those around you don’t understand the help you need.

Becoming Body Positive

Yvonne didn’t make the cut. When Reality TV meets weight loss - not everyone wins. Yvonne didn’t make it onto a TV weight loss show and she felt like she was left out in the cold without a clear path forward.
At 24 years of age and weighing close to 300lbs she felt she was out of options. She wasn’t.

By changing just one habit for a short period of time Yvonne saw her weight drop. Relying on her herself and separating food from emotion has led her to be the bad-a$$ confident woman she is today.

She’s saying no to chronic dieting, yes to preparation and sharing how she’s winning life on her terms.

A Warrior's Story of Survival

This is a story of bravery and courage. Adele George is a warrior and a survivor.
We’re going back to times when domestic violence was swept under the rug and services for survivors were hard to come by. From gas-lighting to sexual and physical abuse, and a tragic and violent ending where Adele survived and is here to share her story with you.

It's All About the Adrenaline

This sweet and strong GRRRL, Kiana Clay, fell in love with adrenaline sports as a young child. She chased the highest and fastest adventure as she grew.
Getting her first motorcycle at age 7, she fell in love with riding on trails and tracks. She was so good at it that she started competing, hoping to go pro at 16. A tragic accident led to the nerves that control the muscles and feeling in her arm being severed, which was a devastating obstacle in her journey.
Kiana perservered and didn't let it stop her from working toward improving the paralysis and recovery. But then....on the way to a hospital appointment, a drunk driver took away Kiana’s chance of getting her arm back. All of this happened in a six-month period when she was 12 years old.
Kiana's story is of grit and determination. She is smart, kind and will fill you with so much inspiration that you will ask yourself, what is stopping you.
