Before We Die follows the stories of the brave, audacious, and stubbornly persistent problem-solving gizmologists from the Med-Tech world. Join us as top doctors, scientists, bio-designers, and entrepreneurs share their stories of unimaginable successes and heartbreaking failures as they strive to bring their life-saving technology and diagnostic innovations to the patients who need them the most. The Med-Tech industry is booming, but the obstacles and delays are an endless challenge. Can healthcare catch up with innovation? With an emphasis on the patient perspective, hosts Joey Brenneman, Sandra Miller, John MacMahon, and Craig Ullman lend their humor and expertise to explore the stories behind the people and companies driving a billion-dollar healthcare market. In addition to Before We Die, you'll also have access to Lab Before Slab, the tangential conversation mini-podcast where Sandy, John, and Craig geek out about the latest happenings in the med-tech field
Meet Dr. Paul Yock! Dr. Yock is famous for fundamentally improving cardiac interventions over his entire career. He walks us through the basics of a heart attack and how they were treated from the time his career began to now. His Rapid Exchange (RX) catheter innovation "rapidly" became the global standard. As the treatment for heart attack evolved to include cardiac stents, he next invented a catheter to see inside the patient's arteries and optimize stent deployment and patient outcomes. Dr. Paul Yock has won awards as an engineer as well as a cardiologist and is the founding director of the Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign dedicated to advanced training and medical technology. Even with all of his incredible achievements, Dr. Paul Yock is very down to earth and fascinating to talk to. Hear about heart attacks from the cardiologist who continues to learn from them!
