Food media is blowing up, yet entire communities are left out of the conversation. Food is the best way to get to know each other and cultures outside of our own, and it's important that everyone has a seat at the table to tell their story. Food writer and photographer Korsha Wilson created A Hungry Society to foster more diverse and inclusive conversations about the culinary world. Each week, Korsha looks critically at the current state of the food world and welcomes guests to discuss the role of food in their lives.
Today’s guest is Nicole Taylor, cookbook author, food writer, and former host of the Hot Grease podcast on Heritage Radio Network. Her book The UpSouth Cookbook is part-cookbook and part-memoir telling the story of how Taylor used cooking to reconnect to her southern roots after she moved to Brooklyn. Her writing has appeared in the New York Times, Saveur, Cherry Bombe, Ebony magazine, and more. On today's show, we discuss Taylor's formative dining experiences, how she feels about the "food appropriation" discussion, and what she hopes to see more of in food media.
