Any casual viewer can tell you that the business of adaptations is booming -- and while popular IP might come with name recognition and a built-in fanbase, it also comes with built-in expectations from those fans (and detractors). As one of the earliest pieces of the equation, casting is often at the heart of those expectations, setting the tone for a project and sparking commentary before a single frame has been shot or aired.
Casting Society (CSA) and ATX TV Festival present a conversation with the casting directors behind some of TV's most successful and surprising adaptations about casting everything from beloved characters to real-life figures, the myriad ways that a casting choice comes together (or doesn't), why they're always rooting for actors, and their own origin stories as casting directors.
PANELISTS:
- Jeanie Bacharach, CSA (The Dropout, Station Eleven)
- Richard Hicks, CSA (The Last Thing He Told Me)
- Felicia Fasano, CSA (A League of Their Own)
- Conrad Woolfe, CSA (Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies)
MODERATOR:
- Sarah Pitre (Alamo Drafthouse)
