The Fight Game Podcast is now on the Blue Wire Podcast Network. Hosts Garrett Gonzales and John LaRocca discuss the art of professional wrestling, the drama of mixed martial arts, and the sweet science of boxing.
This is the first episode of the rebranded Fight Game Podcast. Duan (@DuanDub on Twitter) joins me to discuss news in boxing, MMA, and pro wrestling. We talk about all the boxing news and give our early prediction for Ward/Kovalev. We discuss the heavily hyped Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight (33:00) and what's in it for both sides. We also talk about Aldo vs Holloway this weekend and the UFC light heavyweight division. Lastly, we look at the Extreme Rules main event based on an article I wrote for Fight Game Blog, which you can see here: http://fightgameblog.com/2017/06/handicapping-the-fatal-5-way-match-at-extreme-rules/. We also look at the independent scene and wonder why WWE is down, yet the independents are up. (65:00)
Paul "Ace" Fontaine joins us to talk about the great Kazuchika Okada/Kenny Omega match from New Japan Pro Wrestling's Dominion card. Was it better than their match from Wrestle Kingdom? Is it one of the greatest matches of all-time? We also break down the rest of the card, including Hiroshi Tanahashi's win over Tetsuya Naito. We talk about what the main event of the G1 special from Long Beach could be. We then talk about Demetrious Johnson's dispute with the UFC when it comes to his matchmaking and drawing. Lastly, we talk about the Bellator PPV show in two weeks.
Duan and I discuss the news that Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor is on for the first half of the show. We talk about how big the fight comes across, what the terms might be, what would be a success and failure, and how it may affect other fights this year, including the next fight that we talk about, Ward and Kovalev (41:00). We break down Ward and Kovalev by looking back at the first fight, analyzing their corners including Ward's relationship with Virgil Hunter, Kovalev's conditioning, strategy, what each guy may do differently, and what happens for each after this fight.
GG, John LaRocca, Dave Dutra, and The Heartbreak Kid David Rubio (well, at least Rubio's presence) give their live thoughts on New Japan Pro Wrestling's G1 Special USA from Long Beach, California. They're packed into a hotel room just a few hours after the show ended to look at the show as a whole. There's no need to go match by match as everyone watched it on AXS. But, there were things they saw live that helped shape our thoughts, including the bad seating. Other questions include: Should they have gone with a bigger building? How would you rate the show between 1-10? What type of crowd would you compare this to? Has Kenny Omega peaked? Is Kazuchika Okada one of the best ever? Why do hardcore fans dislike Cody Rhodes? What was the best match on the show? Who is winning G1?
This is a quick hit podcast to discuss the recent unveiling of Kurt Angle's secret, which just happened on Monday Night Raw, a few hours before this taping. We wanted to get an immediate reaction on the payoff so we called Big D of Geekdom 101 and World Of Geekdom to chat about Raw. We also took a look at the main event situation for the Raw side and wondered if Braun Strowman could be their top babyface right now. Before we get to D, I talk about the first night of the G1 Climax and the matches I was able to see, including the final two of night one. I also talk about the retirement of Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero.
First, I want to apologize for the audio. This was a test and we probably won't do it again. I didn't know how much of the outside traffic and air conditioning the microphone was going to pick up. Thus, when we're driving fast, you will hear a lot of outside interference. But when we're in a bit of traffic, there's less static. Hopefully you can hear the content (and not be too offended by the noise) because I think it's pretty good. All Pro Wrestling (APW) booker, John LaRocca joins me to talk about indy show memories, road stories, people he's worked with in the business like Jeff Cobb, Timothy Thatcher, Shayna Baszler, and Nicole Savoy, and guys he'd love to book. We then talk about the show we were headed to, APW's Civic Slam. We talk about G1 and how great it was, including our top 10 matches of the entire tournament. We talk about why Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor is so anticipated. We discuss some of the UFC slowness (this was before Jon Jones failed his drug test, but we kind of talk about him in that way) and then end with more wrestling, including what our favorite eras of wrestling were and what matches we'd put on our favorites list.
Duan and GG discuss everything that relates to last night's mega fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor. We describe what we thought happened in the ring, and what is next for both guys. We go over the undercard and talk about Badou Jack's impressive victory and Gervonta Davis' less than impressive victory. We also talk about Canelo vs GGG and how it was hurt by last night's fight. We talk about ESPN's deal with Top Rank and what it means for boxing and HBO. We then preview the upcoming second season of the Fabulous Four Podcast which starts next week.
This Throwback Audio is from February 12, 2016. At the time, Shayna Baszler was about to have her second professional wrestling match for John LaRocca's Premier Wrestling. She was set to face her training partner, Colleen Schneider. We talked about that match and her young pro wrestling career. We also talked about other wrestling, such as Daniel Bryan's retirement and what she likes about WWE. She even teased a Four Horsewomen vs. Four Horsewomen match, which does look like it could be happening in WWE soon.
GG is back with The Fight Game Podcast. Joining him is longtime podcast guest Jason Hagholm. They discuss Sunday night's WWE PPV, Hell In A Cell. It was a PPV that felt like a big time show and they explain why it wasn't just another WWE Network show. They go through all the matches, bookended with both Hell In A Call matches, and also discuss the letdown that was the WWE title match. They also discuss where the Kevin Owens and Shane McMahon feud may go.
The other main topic is UFC 216, which wasn't a must-see show, but was a fun one with four submission finishes on the main card. We also discuss who Conor McGregor's next fight may be with.

This Friday is APW's second Cow Palace show of the year. Fredericks, the Internet champion, defends his title against Jacob Fatu.
We talk to Karl about his young career so far. We discuss his interest in wrestling as a kid and how that made him want to become a pro wrestler. He talks about his early training and some of the people who influenced him along the way like Adam Thornstowe of the Reno Scum. He takes us behind the curtain about what it's like to be in a WWE tryout, what it's like to be on their radar, and what his future looks like. He also talks about what it takes to be a body guy.
