For new, clear ice only. Double if white snow ice
Under 4" - STAY OFF
4" - Ice fishing or other activities on foot
5" - 7" - Snowmobile or ATV
8" - 12" - Car or small pickup
12" - 15" - Medium truck
Safety essentials. Beer, Low profile PFD, throw bag, chisel stick, Ice pick around neck, whistle, know what to do in case of emergency
Essentials Gear: Warm clothes, 24-36” rod, auger, skimmer, Chisel stick, jigs or live bait, sled, 1-2 plastic buckets (seats). Amazon has starter kit for $99
Additional equipment: Tip ups, Shelter or shanty, heater, spear fishing, clubbing, can be very elaborate! Beer & food very elaborate set ups.
