Do animals seek out alcohol? We’re digging into the science behind animals getting drunk off fermented fruit which has been a topic that has piqued my interest for a while now. Some of you may have already seen like the New York City drunk raccoon video or heard about vervet monkeys stealing cocktails from bars, well I’m talking with a molecular biologist and anthropologist Dr. Mareike Janiak who studies how primates, bats and other mammals digest their food so we can get down to the bottom of it or the bottom of the bottle I guess you could say. Mareike also wrote an article debunking the myth that elephants are too big to get drunk off fermented fruit!
