Iowa Player with Heart: Owen Sweeney
Owen Sweeney was nominated as a Beck’s Player with Heart for his commitment and passion on and off the court and field. What he loves most about playing high school sports is having the opportunity to compete against friends he has known since the very beginning of playing sports. He also enjoys being able to set goals for himself and his team. It has taught him the hard work it takes to achieve goals even if they do not always work out the way he wants them to. Owen is involved in football, basketball, track, baseball, and FFA. He also participates in many organizations that lend their hand to his local community. Through 4-H, he volunteers at the county fair and has joined the local County Council. Owen also supports Meals from the Heartland and the food pantry through FFA during the school year. Through sports, he and his team help clean up the community during their city clean days, raise money for cancer awareness, and support the youth program. Agriculture has helped Owen expand his knowledge of the world and his community. It has given him a number of learning opportunities and has taught him not only how to work hard, but also how to find compassion and care for others. Owen plans to attend community college for a degree in ag business. It is undecided as of right now which school he will attend but he would love to find a college to continue his baseball career.
