Memorial Day became a National Holiday in 1951, but its origins can be traced back to soon after the American Civil War. Today, for many, it’s become just a paid day off from work or hamburgers, hot dogs, and a day at the beach or lake. Largely, most view this Memorial Day as the unofficial start of summer. It means so much more than those things.

Karl Porfirio joins the conversation to discuss the difficulty of losing a child and the legacy of his son, his grandson.
